Use it to notify users about:

  • changes in the process or procedure that is covered in a learning path
  • a new feature in software that is presented in a course
  • a new learning entity, such as a course or quiz, added to a learning path
  • significant changes in the training material previously provided

By default, learning path content updates apply only to participants who have not completed the learning path. You can check the Completed box to also update the content for participants who have completed the learning path.

If the checkbox is not checked, users who have completed course modules in the learning path will not receive updated content for those courses.

Progress will be recalculated accordingly. For example, progress can change from 100% to 50% if there was only one course module before and then one quiz module was added.

Participants who are already enrolled in a learning path will see the version of the modules that were current when they enrolled. For quiz modules, they will see the version available when they first accessed the module. By default, further updates are not shown to previously enrolled participants.

To push changes that were made to learning path content or its course modules to participants who were enrolled before:

  1. Go to the learning path administration page.
  2. Click Check for content updates button

  3. The system will check if there are updates available and let you know.

  4. When some of the current participants have outdated content, you will be able to push the updates at this stage.
  5. Participants will see the update while the completed modules with no changes will remain completed.

Types of updatesLink to Types of updates

Changes made to a quiz included in a learning path or course module cannot be directly pushed to participants. If you had major changes in a quiz and need course participants to retake it:

  • remove the quiz module from the learning path(the course module of the learning path)
  • push the update on the learning path administration page
  • add the same quiz to the learning path (the course module of the learning path)
  • push the update on the learning path administration page

Learning path participants will get a notification and will have to retake the whole quiz while other completed modules will remain completed.

There are three types of content updates:

  • automatic updates
  • minor updates (pushed only when significant updates are available)
  • significant updates

Automatic updatesLink to Automatic updates

The following updates are pushed to existing course participants automatically and don't require you to click the Check for content updates button:

  • renaming the learning path itself
  • renaming a learning path module (such as course or quiz)
  • renaming modules in learning path course module
  • renaming section in the learning path course module
  • removing empty section in the learning path course module

Minor updatesLink to Minor updates

The following updates are pushed to existing course participants only when significant updates are available (until then, the check for updates will be saying there're no updates):

  • moving modules in the learning path
  • moving modules in the learning path course module
  • moving sections in the learning path course module

Significant updatesLink to Significant updates

The following updates are pushed to existing learning path participants when you click the Check for content updates button:

  • adding module (such as quiz or course)
  • removing module
  • adding module to the learning path course module
  • removing module from the learning path course module
  • new version of a module (page) in the learning path course module available
  • removing a section with modules from the learning path course module

Notifications for participantsLink to Notifications for participants

Learning path participants who receive content updates get email notifications:

  • if before the update, their status was Started, and the update happened to one of the page modules that the participant viewed before
  • if before the update, their status was Completed, and the update happened to one of the page modules that the participant viewed before or a new module was added

Notifications are not sent in other cases.
