Talk Inline Comments
Start with TalkInline Comments
- Select a word, phrase, or sentence and click the talk icon in the pop-up panel.
You can also add talks by just pointing to the appropriate place on your page. To do that make sure that you have enabled adding of discussions in the Talk settings:
- Navigate to the page pane
- Find and press the Talk icon
- Check Enable adding of discussions
After that, you will see the Talk icon when you hover over content on a page. Click the icon and start adding talks.
2. Enter your comment and click Save.

3. After saving a talk, you will see it to the right side of your page contents.

The Talk settings button that is located on the top on a Confluence page shows the number of Talk discussions on a page. If there's no figure, it means that currently there are no Talk discussions on this page. |
4. When you want to reply to the talk, select it. The talk is highlighted in yellow. Enter your reply into the text field and click Reply to post it. The Talk icon that you selected also becomes highlighted, so you can easily track which element the talk is mapped to.

Inline Comments rin Edit mode
Via Insert menu
Open the page on which you want to start a discussion and switch to Edit mode.
Click where you want to add an inline comment.
Select Talk from the Insert menu, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+C.
Enter your comment and click Save. You will see the Talk icon
next to the commented part, and your comment will be displayed to the right of the page content.Info Instead of clicking Save, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter.
If you want to mention someone, type @ and start typing their name. Choose the person you want to mention from the list of suggestions. That user will become the watcher of this page and will be receiving notifications when new talks are created or new replies are added on this page.
To insert links to other Confluence pages in a comment, press [ and type a page name or paste a page URL to a comment. Learn more about adding links in comments.
You can use wiki markup to format the entered text. Please see this page for more info.
Update your page. A timestamped comment is now posted on the page and is visible to other Confluence users who can access this page and have permissions to view the discussion (more about Managing Permissions).
Info All users mentioned in a comment will get both a Workbox and an email notification about a new discussion. You will get Workbox and email notifications about new comments posted in the discussion, if the Autowatch option is enabled in your Confluence user profile.
Talk Suggestions
To add a suggestion while editing a page:
- Select the text you want to suggest to change. Clickon the toolbar and choose Talk Suggestion.
- Type your sugestion in the input and Save.
- Your suggestion will be shown on the sidebar – both while viewing and editing the page

Keyboard Shortcuts
You can use keyboard shortcuts in the editor:
- Ctrl+Alt+C – add a Talk inline comment in the editor
- Ctrl+Alt+S – add a Talk suggestion in the editor
Using autocomplete
You can use autocomplete to add Talk inline comments in Edit mode.
- Click where you want to add a comment, type {talk and select Talk from the list of suggestions.
In the opened Insert Talk Macro dialog window, enter your comment in the Comment field. You also can see how your Talk will look on the page. Click the Preview button after entering text.
Click Insert.
Info Instead of clicking Insert, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter.
- Save your page.
